Care sector sponsorship update

New overseas recruitment into care worker and senior care worker roles is closed. Existing sponsored care workers can extend, change sponsor, and settle in the UK until at least 22 July 2028. If you are already living in the UK and legally employed on another route, you may be able to switch into a care role only if you have worked for the sponsoring employer for at least 3 months before your Certificate of Sponsorship is assigned. The sponsor must be a licensed, CQC-regulated care provider. (England).

Why checking sponsorship status matters

If you need a Skilled Worker visa to work in the UK, you can only accept a job offer from an employer that holds a sponsor licence. Without it, the employer cannot issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), and without a CoS the Home Office will not grant your visa.

How does the Sponsor Checker work?

Type all or part of the employer's name as it appears on the job advert. We search our copy of the Home Office Register of Licensed Sponsors, which we update every working day. If the employer holds a Skilled Worker licence you will see a green Verified Sponsor Employer badge with its location and visa route.

What is the Home Office Register of Licensed Sponsors?

The official list of UK employers authorised by the Home Office to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). You need a CoS from a licensed sponsor to apply for a Skilled Worker visa.

Does a verified sponsor employer mean the job can be sponsored?

No. It means the employer holds a Skilled Worker licence. The role must also meet the skill level and salary rules, so check those and confirm with the employer before you apply.

What if I cannot find the employer?

Try a shorter version of the name. Some organisations are registered under a parent company or a different trading name: search NHS rather than the full trust name, or KPMG rather than KPMG UK LLP. You can also check the official register on GOV.UK.

How often is the register updated?

The Home Office updates the register regularly, and we check for a new version every working day. Always confirm an employer's current status before accepting an offer.
